Technical notes and description: Cotton and wool warp and weft Jacquard double-weave cloth. This figured and fancy two-panel coverlet of natural cotton and crimson red wool was fabricated on a handloom with an attached Jacquard mechanism. The central field has alternating rows of cherry spraylike rondels and floral (hibiscus) rondels. The rondels are separated by double-ended clusters of berried vegetation and confronting pairs of long-tailed exotic birds. The side borders are composed of a foliate chain set against an angled spotted bar background, and the foot border is a broad floral band.
