Technical notes and description: Cotton and wool Biederwand weave cloth. A Jacquard attachment was employed on a handloom to achieve the weave of this near square coverlet. Pinkish-red, mustard, and deep indigo bars traverse the coverlet, which is predominately deep indigo and white. The eight-and-one-half pattern of two alternating rows consists of rondels of tulip blossoms or four pairs of leaves and tighter rondels with alternating tulips and peonylike buds. These motifs are centered and separated by snowflakelike devices. Three sides are bordered with small, alternating, stylized floral arrangements of a trefoil composition.
