1. Artist Harold Stevenson (1929-2018) arrived in New York City in 1949; there, Stevenson gained representation with the Hugo Gallery, and through director Alexander Iolas he established connections with Surrealists including Rene Magritte and Max Ernst. Stevenson moved to Paris a decade later and divided the rest of his career between that city, New York, and his native Oklahoma.
