DescriptionThis caster must deserve the prize as the most peculiar silver vessel in the Bayou Bend Collection. A related tea service belonged to a former First Lady of the United States. Produced by the Gorham Manufacturing Company about 1861, the three-piece set is engraved with the initials of Mary Todd Lincoln (Smithsonian Institution). Evidently, the design became a popular one, and Tiffany integrated it into their line.
ProvenanceMary Beth Baird, Austin; Estate of Mary Beth Baird; given to MFAH, 2004.
