DescriptionEdward Chandler Moore’s father, silversmith John Chandler Moore, had entered into a contract in 1851 to produce silver exclusively for Tiffany and Company. Edward would go on to a long career as chief designer for the firm, taking it from the stylistic conservatism expressed by this classically-inspired tureen to explore a much broader range of stylistic influences in the later decades of the 1800s.
ProvenanceMr. and Mrs. Don F. McMillian, Houston; given to MFAH, 1997.
