DescriptionFrom modest beginnings in 1831, the Gorham firm expanded from making spoons to become one of the largest and most important silver manufacturers in the United States, rivalling Tiffany and Company of New York. This vase’s chased decoration combines elements of the rococo and Renaissance revival styles consistent with late 19th-century eclecticism.
ProvenanceMary Beth Baird, Austin; Estate of Mary Beth Baird; given to MFAH, 2004.
