Description

William Schulz and Emil Fischer, who retailed these vases made by the Gorham Manufacturing Company, established their firm in San Francisco in 1867 and were soon rivaling the best silversmiths in the city. They had the distinction of making the golden spikes that marked the ceremonial completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869.
