DescriptionQueen Mary II, who came to England with William III of Orange in the Glorious Revolution of 1688, was the daughter of James, Duke of York, later King James II. Though James converted to Catholicism, Mary was raised as a Protestant; she married her Protestant cousin William III. King James’s pro-Catholic policies and the birth of a male heir created a constitutional crisis that led to the Glorious Revolution, which consolidated Protestant power in the British Crown.
