DescriptionThe ship Heiress launched from Mystic, Connecticut, in 1860. This portrait is probably the work of an artist in Liverpool, England, an important center for spinning and weaving cotton, which was the most valuable commodity in the Texas economy at the time, produced by an enslaved workforce.
