ProvenanceThe artist, late nineteenth/early twentieth century; possibly collection of K.L. MacLean, Roxbury, MA1; [Mongerson Wunderlich, Chicago, Illinois]; [Coeur d’Alene Art Auction, Coeur d’Alene, ID, 2024 Coeur d’Alene Art Auction, lot 179, July 27, 2024]; purchased by Duncan W. Corbett, Houston, July 27, 2024; given to MFAH, 2024.

1. An aged fragment of paper with the graphite inscription “K.L. MacLean/34 Langdon St/Roxbury Mass” was included in a manila folder of related ephemera affixed to the verso of the work’s frame by Coeur d’Alene Art Auction. The 1914 Boston Register and Business Directory published by Sampson & Murdock Co. notes a K.L. MacLean Co. as a wholesale fruit dealer, and the same business is noted in the Boston publications Corporations Subject to Franchise Taxes in 1915 and Abstract of the Certificates of Corporations Organized under the General Laws of Massachusetts in 1916. However, K.L. MacLean Co. was listed among the “delinquent corporations to be dissolved” in Acts and Resolves Passed by the General Court of Massachusetts in the Year 1920. More research may help determine additional information about K.L. MacLean and his possible ownership of this work.
