With a seemingly magical ability to transform the most fundamental elements of photography into remarkably beautiful, large-scale pictures, Adam Fuss makes photographs in pursuit of what he calls the “edge of perception.” This poetic mediation engages the photographic process to create work that embodies multivalent metaphors and spiritual iconography. Wish is a photogram—a photograph made without a camera—created by placing an infant in a warm, shallow pool of water over unexposed photo paper. A quick burst of light silhouettes the child’s squirming body and captures the ethereal ripples of water in vivid gold tones.
