This type of fan-back side chair was produced primarily in Pennsylvania and New England. The horizontality of the scrolled-ear crest rail conforms with the norm of Pennsylvania design.
Technical notes: Yellow-poplar (seat), soft maple (legs, stretchers), hickory (crest rail, spindles).
