Depicting the architect Philip Johnson’s Glass House, constructed in New Canaan, Connecticut, in 1949, the photographer James Welling transforms the iconic house into the subject of his own boldly colorful and experimental work. Known for his long-term engagement with developing photographic technology and his perceptive use of filters, Welling approaches the Glass House not as a sacrosanct architectural monument but instead as a subject through which the surrounding environment and light are filtered in their own right.
