Description

After noticing a haphazard pile of paper strips in his studio, James Welling decided to use them to create visually complex abstractions that suggest architectural structures or musical scores. Welling’s cameraless abstractions are in part explorations of chance as a creative element, while also referencing the photograms of earlier artists and the paintings of Abstract Expressionists such as Franz Kline.
