DescriptionTextured and reflective, undulating and straight-edged, white and brightly hued—various forms come into play in Barbara Kasten’s Constructs. She shot this series of elaborate studio compositions with a large-format Polaroid that captures the sensuous, colorful surfaces of objects, most of which she fabricated. Kasten’s triangular shapes seem to tower like skyscrapers, and by carefully modulating the lighting over angled planes, she gave her more or less gray constructions intensely saturated hues. Kasten found inspiration in the Bauhaus principle of experimenting with materials and perspective.
