Schendel produjo este cuadro poco después de haber inmigrado
al Brasil e informarse sobre el arte concreto. Se basa en relaciones geométricas
formales, aunque la superficie texturizada, líneas trazadas a mano y formas desiguales
evoquen lo orgánico y lo sensorial. Al incorporar trozos rectangulares de
madera al soporte, Schendel cuestiona la propia índole del arte concreto en
comparación con la realidad. Como Em vermelho de Dacosta, expuesto aquí cerca,
la sobreposición de cuadrados despliega nexos espaciales que semejan elementos
arquitectónicos.
