Description

The stacking of stark, diagonally cut white cylinders and prisms across the surface of a plane lends a dynamic tension to Relevo 326. Sérgio Camargo began producing the Relevo series in 1963, creating works featuring monochromatic cylinders that allowed him to study the relationship between volume and flatness as well as the play of light and shadow on the wood surface. The interplay of light, combined with the smooth projections into space, allows Relevo 326 to oscillate between painting and sculpture, appealing to both the tactile and the ocular senses and challenging the viewer’s perception of form.
