Object Type
DescriptionA
rare example of Matto’s contribution to the decorative arts, Constructivo combines traditional TTG pictographs
(sun, man, snail) with innovative ones (tea kettle, tractor, vines). Produced
in association with the architect Ernesto Leborgne, the grill originally
decorated a residential window in the resort town of Punta del Este. The trend
of incorporating Constructive work into architecture began in Torres-García’s
house, where his experiments in plastic integration resulted in the first Uruguayan
style of modern architecture.

ProvenanceThe artist; Olive Neuhaus Jenney, 1992; given to MFAH, 2016.
