Description

Assembled from appropriated photographs and invented text, Robert Heinecken’s work from this series presents fictious accounts from the “Institute for Socio-Duo-Habliment Studies” as it documents its workshops designed to examine the effect of clothing and fashion choices on the interpersonal dynamics of mothers and daughters. The images are sourced from catalogues that Heinecken has rephotographed and arranged alongside his own text. Heinecken’s satirical and humorous arrangement of text and image offers a critique of the gender and relationship stereotypes that predominate the visual culture of American consumerism.
