Este cuadro combina cuadrícula ortogonal con un sistema
estructural de arquitectura pétrea inca. Torres García usa sombreados dejando grandes
parches sin pintar para simular las superficies de piedra texturizada de estos enormes
sitios prehispánicos. En su opinión, los elementos geométricos frontales planos
del arte y la arquitectura prehispánicos pudieran ser considerados puntos de
partida para la moderna abstracción latinoamericana. Intercalando principios
constructivos con motivos indígenas, él procuró un movimiento de arte autónomo
para el continente.
