DescriptionThomas Chippendale’s published designs for furniture drew on a variety of inspirations , including Gothic. This chair’s delicately pierced and carved splat features an interpretation of Gothic tracery, while its straight legs would have been a less expensive alternative to cabriole legs with carved claw-and-ball feet.
