[1] Kirchner (Aschaffenburg, Germany, 1880– Davos, Switzerland, 1938) was survived by his two brothers: Hans Walter (1882–1954) and Ulrich (1888–1950). As of 1966, the owner was listed as Kirchner Estate. The Art Bulletin (September–December 1966), no. 11, illus., as Moonrise: Soldier and Girl. Per the catalogue raisonné, this was still in the estate at the time of its publication in 1968. Donald E. Gordon, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press, 1968), no. 7, ill., in b/w, G7, p. 266. Dresden as the location of the Estate appears in catalogue (after 1980) p. 72.
[2] Ketterer became administrator of the Kirchner estate in 1954. “Roman Norbert Ketterer, 91, Art Dealer,” New York Times (June 22, 2002). https://www.nytimes.com/2002/06/22/arts/roman-norbert-ketterer-91-art-dealer.html (Accessed by Julia May Boddewyn, 27 August 2024).
