[1] An abraded label affixed to the painting’s upper stretcher bar bears the no. “4835,” which is thought to correspond to the Durand-Ruel stock number for this work. [Information concerning the verification of the stock number as well as the acquisition and sale records for this work was requested by Robert McD. Parker to the Durand-Ruel archives on November 1, 2024.]
[2] An exhibition label, also attached to the painting’s upper stretcher bar, notes the loan of the work by Mrs. J[osiah] Bradlee and bears the no. “998.16.” The label most likely corresponds to one of twenty-one paintings loaned by Mrs. Josiah Bradlee to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 1916, as noted by Robert McD. Parker, December 2024. [See Annual Report for the Year (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston) 41 (1916), p. 109 at https://www.jstor.org/stable/43479502, accessed on 3 December 2024.] Mrs. Josiah Bradlee, née Crowninshield (1839-1926) and her husband were both art collectors and patrons. Josiah Bradlee (1837-1902) was a known client of Durand-Ruel; however, the actual purchase of this work remains unconfirmed.
