DescriptionThis book-form box bears the title Death of Major Ringgold, referring to Samuel Ringgold, a hero of the Mexican-American War of 1846 to 1848 who was killed in the Battle of Palo Alto early in the war. Ringgold was an artillery officer who is remembered for his influence on tactics and emphasizing the mobility of guns, which was called “flying artillery.”
