The sauce tureen was introduced as an alternative to the sauceboat. The earliest English sauce tureens are in the Neoclassical style, while in the United States the form is unknown prior to the nineteenth century. The Bayou Bend tureens divulge Simon Chaudron’s French origins and his shop’s refined interpretations of the Grecian aesthetic.
Technical notes: The feet are assembled from two elements, as are the stems and bowls. Each handle support is a female classical mask. The finials are bolted.
