DescriptionBy the 1820s, developing ceramic manufacturing technology made possible the forming and decorating of relief-molded wares in a single process. English potters created elaborate, high-relief images of many kinds, including scenic, floral, historical, literary, and biblical subjects, among others. Minton, the maker of this example, also produced a version of this form covered with ivy instead of the cherubs seen here.
ProvenanceMiss Ima Hogg; Estate of Miss Ima Hogg, 1975; given to MFAH, 1979.
