The first published female photojournalist in the United States, Jessie Tarbox Beals photographed more than news assignments of local events. Her subjects ranged from presidents Coolidge, Hoover, and Taft, Mark Twain, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and Emily Post to New York City slums and the Bohemian denizens of Greenwich Village.
