DescriptionThis pier table, made Boston in about 1825, effectively contrasts the severe geometry of its skirt and base with the lavish carving and voluptuous movement of its sculptural central support. The mirrored back further emphasizes the central element.
Provenance[Carswell Rush Berlin, Inc., New York] [1]; purchased by MFAH, 1998.

[1] Mr. Berlin found the pier table in a used furniture store in Massachusetts.
