DescriptionRobert
Heinecken is well-known for his mixed-media works that challenge the definition
of photography, and is notorious for pushing the boundaries of sexual imagery
and pop culture in his works. He examines the world and his place in it by
manipulating already existing images. Heinecken recycled images in order to
call attention to our everyday reality. In the mid-1960s he wrote: “We
constantly tend to misuse or misunderstand the term reality in reference to
photographs. The photograph itself is the only thing that is real, that exists…
(There is a vast difference between taking a picture and making a photograph).”
