DescriptionThis bowl is an example of dipped ware, a term given to some earthenware pottery that is turned on a horizontal lathe and decorated with a thin liquid clay, called slip. Many effects were possible, from simple banded patterns to marbleized surfaces. The trailed pattern on this bowl resulted from the application of additional slip from a specialized cup that poured a controlled line onto the surface.
ProvenanceAcquired Oct. 21, 1996, from Mrs. Isabel B. Wilson, Houston, Texas.
