DescriptionThis handsome album quilt is enhanced by its striking designs: the well-executed patriotic eagles that anchor the four corners, the non-repeating floral patterns, and the divided sawtooth border that contains a continuous flowering vine. Probably created around the time Texas became a state, the quilter, who resided in the Baltimore area, seems unfamiliar with the spelling of the new state's name. Under the embroidered lone star of the center block is the misspelled word "TEXES."
