DescriptionIn New England in the 1600s, clocks like this were termed “chamber” or “house” clocks. They were quite rare, owned only by a few of the wealthiest colonists. This clock features a pendulum, which represented a great advance in timekeeping accuracy over the balance wheel.
ProvenanceKatharine Prentis Murphy (1882–1967); given to Miss Ima Hogg, 1959; given to MFAH, by 1966.
