The balloon-shape contour of the bent back is an unusual feature in sack-back armchairs. A similar design is used on a group of Rhode Island bow-back side chairs, and the lower leg turnings with inward curve also conform to Rhode Island design.
Technical notes: Soft maple (seat), white oak (arm and crest rails), ash (legs, stretchers, spindles), hickory (right-hand rest, replaced).
