DescriptionThis print depicts the siege of Fort Texas, one of the earliest engagements of the Mexican-American War. United States troops hastily constructed the fortification. Major Jacob Brown commanded the garrison there. The battle was largely an artillery duel. Major Brown suffered mortal wounds in the fighting. The city of Brownsville, Texas, was later named for him.
Provenance[Kennedy Galleries, New York]; purchased by Miss Ima Hogg, 1958; given to MFAH, 1969.
