DescriptionThe battle of Monterrey  took place in September of 1846, relatively early in the Mexican-American War.  Independence Hill was a strategic point just outside the city. United States forces led by Zachary Taylor ultimately forced an armistice and the surrender of the city.
Provenance[The Old Print Shop, New York]; purchased by Miss Ima Hogg, 1951; given to MFAH, 1969.
