In building his tabletop dioramas and collages, Wardell Milan brings together a vast array of imagery. In this work, which pays homage to the photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson’s iconic image On the Banks of the Marne, Milan has arranged pictures of fashion models, sculpture, family members, and elements from Cartier-Bresson’s photograph. By recreating and infusing this famous photograph with elements from his own life, Wardell reflects on the relationship between the daily deluge of visual media and one’s sense of self.
