ProvenanceThe artist, as of 1832; given to Mrs. Reeve [1]; by descent to her son, Henry Reeve; private collection; [C.G. Boerner, New York, by 2023]; purchased by MFAH, 2023.

[1] According to an accompanying letter by Henry Reeve, the presentation copy was selected and given to his mother, Mrs. Reeve of 3 Well Walk, Hampstead, by the artist who lived nearby at 40 Well Walk; the Reeve family came from the same part of Suffolk as Constable and Mrs. Reeve’s husband, Dr. Reeve, was at Dedham Grammar School together with Constable “about the year 1793.”
