Description

As the title suggests, this work by William Camargo was made in response to the work of the conceptual artist John Divola. In Divola’s original work, As Far As I Can Get, he set his camera on a timer and ran away for 10 seconds before the shutter fired. Following the death of Ahmaud Arbery—who was murdered in a racially motivated hate crime while jogging near his Georgia home in 2020—Camargo began to view Divola’s work differently, noting, “[As a white man, Divola] is not afraid of anything happening to him as he runs carelessly to create that work.”

ProvenanceThe artist, Anaheim, California; purchased by MFAH, 2023.
