Description

Each year, millions of straw-colored fruit bats pass through a small section of forested wetlands in Kasanka National Park in northern Zambia, where they are drawn to the varieties of wild trees that bear fruit at the start of each rainy season. This massive movement of bats forms the largest migration of mammals in the world, which Zana Briski has photographed using a large-scale panoramic camera and printed on custom-made Japanese paper. Briski’s photography stems from her reverence for the earth, and she seeks to honor her animal subjects and share her sense of awe.
