In late 1865, Cameron bought a new camera, capable of holding 12-by-15-inch glass negatives, rather than the 10-by-12-inch negatives used in the camera given to her two years earlier by Julia and Charles Norman, the original recipi­ents of this album. Both prints displayed here were made in 1866 with that new, larger camera, and this one, too—showing Cameron’s niece May Prinsep, maid Mary Ryan, and neighbor children Freddy Gould and Elizabeth Keown— may take its title from a poem, Summer Days by Wathen Mark Wilks Call or one of the same title by Eliza Cook.
