[1] Jules Michelin (c. 1815-1870).
On sheet: [collector’s mark Jules Michelin]
Jules Michelin, born in Paris and died in Limoges, was a pupil of Roqueplan and Ramelet. He specialized in landscape. Friend of Corot, whom he encouraged in 1858 to resume etching. He had assembled a collection of prints and drawings from various periods, the modern part of which went on sale in 1898. As this sale only included a few old pieces, it is likely that this part of the collection was made on another occasion.
