DescriptionAt first glance, these candlesticks with their highly detailed surfaces and colorful decoration might appear to be porcelain. In fact, they made of copper decorated with multicolored enamels. Enamel manufacturing flourished in England beginning in the third quarter of the 1700s, with small decorative objects such as snuffboxes and candlesticks among the most popular products.
Provenance[Ginsburg & Levy, New York]; purchased by Miss Ima Hogg, May 28, 1959; given to MFAH, 1959.
