There is an engraved coat of arms under the spout of each sauceboat with the motto "Halcyonea Tempora Vidit"

Stamped underside: Gothic "H" in a square with nipped corners and cleft underside / Smiling leopard in a shield / Lion passant, facing left but looking at viewer / in a cloverleaf pattern: "I / L / W / V"--[refer to Grimwade pattern #3908, pp. 276-277: "not traced sauce tureens 1764. also coffee-pot 1762 ? John Vere and William Lutwyche. Cf. Heal, p. 260"]
