DescriptionGlen E. Friedman is best known for his photographs of skateboarders and prominent punk and hip-hop musicians. Drawing out the individual aesthetics and rebellious spirit of his subjects, Friedman’s photographs have become defining images of countercultural movements of the past several decades. Friedman made this portrait of Chuck D and Flavor Flav—founding members of Public Enemy—in 1988 as the group rose to mainstream success with the release of their album "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back." A variant of this photograph was featured on the album cover.
