DescriptionThis tankard in the Biedermeier style was made in Bohemia sometime after 1853, the year the previous Texas capitol was completed; it was destroyed by fire in 1881. The tumbler features an image of the State Capitol and a five-pointed star encircled by “TEXAS” on its lid. The engraved image is likely after a photograph of the State Capitol taken by photographer Hamilton B. Hillyer (1835–1903).
