In her series I Wanted to See the World, Jessica Backhaus pushes the limits of photography’s representational abilities towards vibrant abstractions awash in color. Backhaus employs photographic techniques that utilize the camera’s ability to record the reflection and refraction of the natural world and built environment as it appears modulated through rippling water. The resulting photographs emphasize the sensory alignment of vision with the fleeting experiences and conditions that inform our perception of place.
