DescriptionYasuhiro Ishimoto began his journey as a photographer picturing fellow Japanese Americans at an internment camp in Colorado during World War II. Afterward, he moved to Chicago and studied with photographers Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind at the Institute of Design. In 1953 Ishimoto returned to Japan, where he had spent his childhood and, with the exception of three years in Chicago (1958–61), would live the rest of his life. This colorful, fractured work represents the artist’s continued search for new photographic methods of expression.
