DescriptionA student of Clarence H. White, Anton Bruehl opened a commercial photography studio in New York in the 1920s. Bruehl distinguished himself as a photographer through stylish advertising still lifes and celebrity portraits such as this one of the actor Peter Lorre. With his distinctive appearance and voice, Lorre was among the most recognizable film stars of the 1930s and 1940s. Originally from Hungary, Lorre established his acting career in Berlin but left with the rise of the Nazis. He starred in Alfred Hitcock’s "The Man Who Knew Too Much" and later became a featured player for Warner Bros.
