For her series Yet All Remains, Victoria Sambunaris set out on a cross-country journey, driving 11,000 miles over 12 weeks to explore the intersections of human society and the natural environment. “My work in search of subject matter has taken me on seemingly every road, parkway, thruway, highway, freeway, and turnpike between the coasts and beyond as I traverse the American landscape.” At the border of Utah and Nevada, Sambunaris crossed through Wendover, which developed in the early 20th century as a railroad town, and its landscape is characteristic of the successive layers of intervention—cultivation, extraction, and development—that mark the region.
