Description

By 1960 the photographer Ernst Haas had grown tired of taking realistic pictures of the world around him and instead wanted to create abstract images drawn from his surroundings. He began to make photographs using extreme close-ups and also began printing his images in altered colors in order to abstract the original source. Torn Poster’s torn purple-tinted bills and blocky color scheme suggest a mystical landscape or an abstract collage rather than a worn city wall.
